Finally got the chance to check this one off the list- people call it an epic ride for good reason! One of the most beautiful trails I’ve been on, though you definitely earn your turns.
Climbing up towards Horsehead Pass, the first summit of the day.
The larches were just beginning to change color. Eagle Lake in the background.
Stunning spot to ride!
Changing of the guard.
A fun descent through the larches before climbing again to reach the high point of the trip at the Angels Staircase.
Fast and flowy.
Hike-a-bike to reach the top of the Staircase.
We were rewarded with a killer view from the top.
Looking down on the meadow we had just climbed up through. Most groups do the loop in the opposite direction, and the meadow would have been a really fun descent. We did it ‘backwards’ so that we could finish with an epic 6 mile, 6,000′ descent back to camp down the Foggy Dew trail.
Refueling after the long climb. Not too many trails in Washington get up to 8,000′.
Starting the long descent to camp and waiting beers. Cooney Lake in the background.
The descent through the larches was tons of fun.
Miles and miles of this, all the way back to camp and some cold beers.
